🎮 Meet Marvin – Your French Teacher & Fellow Gamer

Hi, it’s Marvin, also known as Darv, your French teacher and fellow gamer.

I’m from Brittany, France, but I now live in Vigo, a beautiful seaside city in the northwest of Spain, where I teach French online and enjoy life by the ocean.

My story with video games started before I could even read. I still remember mashing buttons on Pokémon without understanding a word, or playing Super Mario World on the SNES when I was just 2 years old. Since then, gaming has been a constant part of my life: from the Game Boy and N64, to the PlayStation 1, 2… all the way to the PS5.

At around 14, I began playing games in other languages. One of my clearest memories is from my Final Fantasy X run, where I picked up tons of English words without even realizing it. Later, I dove into competitive games like League of Legends, FIFA, or Overwatch, always driven by the idea of constant progress and becoming just a little better every day. Today, though, I tend to focus more on narrative games as a way to relax, discover new worlds, and, of course, keep learning languages through immersion.

Teaching has always been my other passion. I first thought about becoming a PE teacher, then an English teacher. But it was during my first year as a French assistant in Glasgow, Scotland, that I realized French teaching was my calling. I went on to teach in Scotland, Galicia, the Basque Country, and Sweden, while earning both an Alliance Française certification and a Master’s degree in Language Didactics. Alongside, I’ve taught more than 3,000 online lessons, sharpening my skills and learning how to adapt to all kinds of students.

Now, I’m bringing my two passions together: teaching and gaming. My mission is to help you unlock the incredible potential of video games as a language learning tool. Whether your goal is career, travel, studies, or simply cultural curiosity, I’ll guide you to make the most of your gaming sessions, transforming them into powerful opportunities to master French.
